Developmental Play-Based Evaluations

Developmental play-based evaluations are formally documented observations of children's play, experiences with toys, and social relationships with others.  These observations may take place in their homes, backyards, child care centers or other naturalistic environments.  It is important for the results to be representative samples of a child's typical temperament, physical, social, and cognitive abilities within the framework of daily routines and experiences.

All the adults in a child’s family of caregivers can offer valuable information by reporting their concerns, children’s abilities and deviations from normal developmental milestones.  Early identification of potential difficulties soon after onset is critical.   It can not only alleviate the presenting problem but prevent further difficulties from developing.
